The newly inaugurated Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, stretching over 210 kilometers, is set to transform travel between the two cities. Previously, the journey took around 6.5 hours, but with this expressway, the travel time has been slashed to just 2.5 hours.
Key Highlights of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway
The expressway has achieved a significant milestone with the opening of a 3.5-kilometer segment. This is part of a broader 31.6-kilometer initiative aimed at drastically reducing travel duration between Delhi and Dehradun.
Constructed at a cost of ₹12,000 crore, the 212-kilometer, six-lane, access-controlled expressway is a greenfield project developed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). It is divided into four sections, starting from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Akshardham in Delhi, passing through Shastri Park, Khajuri Khas, Khekra in Mandola (Baghpat), Shamli, Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, and culminating in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
Toll-Free Segment
The initial 18-kilometer stretch, from Akshardham Temple to Loni, is toll-free, offering a hassle-free experience for commuters.
3.5-Kilometer Section Now Fully Operational
A critical 3.5-kilometer portion of the expressway, connecting Daat Kali to Asharodi, is now fully open to traffic. Previously, only three lanes were operational, but all six lanes are now accessible, ensuring smoother and more efficient travel.
Advanced Infrastructure
The expressway is designed to prioritize road safety and minimize travel time. Spanning 31.6 kilometers, it features six lanes, seven underpasses, two Railway Over Bridges (ROBs), and 54 junctions—17 major and 37 minor—to alleviate congestion and enhance traffic flow.
Pedestrian Safety Measures
To ensure the safety of pedestrians, particularly students, foot-over bridges will be constructed at strategic locations. These bridges will allow safe crossings without interrupting vehicular traffic.
Elevated Sections for Enhanced Connectivity
The expressway includes two elevated sections, each 200 meters long, further improving connectivity and reducing travel disruptions.
Revolutionizing Travel Between Delhi and Dehradun
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is a transformative infrastructure project that aims to redefine travel between the two cities. With its state-of-the-art features, including foot-over bridges, underpasses, and elevated sections, it promises a safer, faster, and more seamless commuting experience.
