Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton officially began his Ferrari adventure this week, marking a significant shift in his illustrious career.
The 40-year-old racing icon surprised fans and rivals alike last February when he announced his departure from Mercedes, his team for over a decade, to join Ferrari.
“Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter with this legendary team. I’m eager to see the legacy we’ll create together,” Hamilton stated in a press release during his first day at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters.
Hamilton, dressed in a sleek overcoat, tailored dark suit, and crisp white shirt, made a stylish debut as he posed outside the historic residence of Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the Prancing Horse. Photos released by Ferrari captured the significance of the moment.
The day’s agenda included a visit to Fiorano, Ferrari’s iconic test track, where Hamilton met team principal Frederic Vasseur and managing director Benedetto Vigna. He also spent time with Riccardo Adami, his new track engineer, along with other key team members who will play a pivotal role in his upcoming season.
“Some moments in life are unforgettable, and today is one of them,” said Hamilton. “Joining Ferrari has always been a dream. Now that it’s real, I’m fully committed to giving my all—for the team, for Ferrari, and for the fans around the world.”
Hamilton joins forces with Charles Leclerc as they aim to end Ferrari’s title drought, with the team’s last world championship won by Kimi Räikkönen in 2007.
The next milestone in this partnership comes on Wednesday when Hamilton will drive a Ferrari F1 car for the first time at Fiorano, taking the 2022 model for a test run limited to 1,000 kilometers.
