Share

Following the warmest Republic Day in eight years, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted significant rainfall in the upcoming week, attributed to ongoing western disturbances.

Western Disturbances Activity The IMD has indicated that the current western disturbances will stay active over the upper Himalayas until January 29. Shortly after, a new western disturbance is expected to take effect on February 1, 2025. These weather systems are likely to bring snowfall to the mountainous regions.

Rainfall in Northern India The influence of these disturbances is anticipated to extend to Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh from January 30 to February 1. These areas may experience rainfall, particularly during the early morning hours of these days.

Additionally, regions such as Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh are forecasted to receive both rain and snow between January 28 and February 1, which will contribute to a decrease in temperatures.

Impact on Southern States The western disturbances are not limited to the north; southern states including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh are also expected to face heavy rainfall in the coming days.

Temperature Trends Across India While northern and southern parts of India may see a drop in temperatures, the central region is projected to maintain stable temperatures over the next two days. In contrast, areas like Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra could experience a temperature rise of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during the upcoming week.

Temperature Changes in Delhi On Monday, Delhi witnessed a temperature drop to 7.8°C at 5:30 AM, with the day’s highest temperature reaching 23.7°C. Despite the cooler weather, residents of Delhi will continue to contend with poor air quality. The Air Quality Index (AQI) remains at a moderate level in the capital.

Air Quality Outlook The Air Quality Early Warning System has predicted that Delhi’s AQI will degrade to ‘poor’ levels from January 27 to 28. Over the next six days, air quality is expected to range from ‘poor’ to ‘very poor,’ posing health concerns for the city’s inhabitants.
